3min creative challenge – #1

By James Lees

I believe the ability to write well, especially in a creative capacity, is a pretty essential skill for a creative strategist. Firstly, because words have an enormous power to shape the way we and others think. And secondly, because good creative writing often insists we think about how to avoid the obvious – the cliché.

Pretty much the first thing you learn on the journey to becoming a better writer is the power of clichés, and that you should avoid them like the pla… eyes of the gorilla who’s forgotten the rainforest.

I’m not going to claim to be the best writer. But I am one that likes to keep practicing and improving.

This is my challenge to you on your break (which you’re obviously on if you’re reading this). Have a go at filling in the blanks and changing these clichés into something more original. Top marks for changing their meaning all together. Comment on the post you found this on with your best go – I’m going to give the winner a mystery prize:

THERE’S PLENTY MORE …

HE SHOOK HIS FIST IN…

I’M FIT AS A …

ALL’S FAIR IN …

TIME HEALS …
